Disabled Children’s Partnership: New report “This is my life: Hear me, help me”

The Disabled Children’s Partnership have published a new report which reveals that inadequate support services for disabled young people across England, are denying them the right to a happy and fulfilling life and threatening the future they deserve. To understand the views of disabled young people the DCP conducted an online survey between December 2023 and January 2024 with 640 disabled young people, aged 11-25, years taking part. The results paint a concerning picture, showing that only one in five feel that they have the right amount of formal support to achieve the things that they want in life.

Satisfaction with levels of support appears to decline as children get older with only 17% of 19–25 year olds happy with support levels, compared to 29% in 11-15 year olds. The research featured in an episode of FYI, the weekly news show for young people on Sky Kids and Sky News. The powerful episode focused on disabled young people who talked directly about their lives and the challenges they face. An easy read version of the report is available.
