Whole School SEND (WSS) are looking for members to be part of an Impact Steering Group

Whole School SEND (WSS) is  looking for Cons ortium members , s chool-bas ed profes s ionals , young people, parent and carers  to be part of an Impact Steering Group.


The steering group will be set up to support dissemination of contract outputs and advise on strategies for maximising the impact on the school sector. Members of the group will also include WSS Chair and Director, National and Regional SEND Leads as well as DfE representative and meet at peak points throughout project development.


Purpose and Role:
The role of the WSS Impact Steering Group is firstly to advise the WSS delivery team on how to achieve maximum reach and impact across the English school sector with WSS outputs. The Impact Steering Group also provides support and challenge around dissemination plans.


The group also provides support and challenge around dissemination plans relating to new products and outputs. This is done by contributing expertise on strategy, key stakeholders and risk management. The group is expected to fulfil this aspect using the benefit of their collective external experience in engaging with professionals in schools through advice and constructive challenge.


The group does not have a formal governance function and will not determine DfE funded work undertaken by WSS. The group may at times be asked to identify priorities and make recommendations on future projects, but all programme decisions will ultimately remain with the contract holder-the DfE.

Scope and Accountability:
The group is accountable to the WSS Chair and WSS Impact Steering Group Chair, and members of the group
will refrain from speaking on behalf of WSS without prior written consent from the WSS Chair.
The scope of the group is to support WSS to ensure as many education professionals in English schools as possible are aware of and drawing on WSS outputs, including resources, review guides, research, videos.
Notes of the WSS Impact Steering Group meetings will be published on the SEND gateway.


Time commitment: Members of the WSS Impact Steering Group are expected to serve till 31st March 2021.

Meetings: Three meetings of the WSS Impact Steering Group will be held between September 2020 and March 2021.


The first meeting will be held in September 2020. The subsequent meetings will take place in November 2020 and February 2021.


Location: The first meeting will be held online. Subsequent meetings are planned to be held in London, subject to change.
