Have Your Say - 2022 Examination Arrangements Consultation Announced

Exams are going to be going ahead next year as ‘normal’ with Education Secretary Gavin Williamson stating that “Exams will always be the fairest way to assess students”. The consultation proposes a range of measures to help mitigate the impact of disruption to students’ education, focussing on the following areas:

• Giving schools and colleges some choice about the topics or content their students will be assessed in GCSE English literature, history, ancient history and geography;
• Providing advance information of the focus of exam content, to help students focus their revision;
• Giving students a formulae sheet in GCSE mathematics and an expanded equations sheet in GCSE physics and combined science;
• Changing requirements for practical science work and practical art and design assessments.

The consultation runs until 1st August 2021 with results to be published early in the next academic year, giving students, teachers and exam boards time to plan. 
A separate consultation on vocational, technical and other general qualifications (VTQs) is also open and closes on 26th July 2021.

There is allowance for the unknown trajectory of the coronavirus and its effect on education next academic year and they reserve the right to use Teacher-Assessed Grades, as this academic year. There is a chance to have your say on these for both staff and students, to ensure that your views around how you felt this system has worked from both perspectives.
