Alternative Provision Research to be undertaken by Ofsted

Amanda Spielman, Ofsted Chief Inspector, published an article in The Guardian announcing new research into the number of pupils attending Alternative Provision (AP) and what their profile of strengths and needs might be considered to be. Ms Spielman acknowledges that whilst some AP provides useful support and education there are a large number of unregulated settings and ‘blurred lines’ exist around the requirement to register with the Department for Education. The research will look at good practice and investigate the increasing number of primary pupils referred to AP.
